At Carby & Co, we know that some of the knowledge that we have after all these years of doing events might not be common for everyone. A client recently mixed up 2 different types of tables when enquiring with us and we thought that this would be a good opportunity to explain the difference between them.
You see, a table can just be a table, like the ones we see everyday in buildings across the world, or it can be designed, themed, customised, branded and front and centre stage of a conference, ceremony, activation or production that many people will see. We maintain an extensive inventory of these pieces, supplying and styling table setups across the UK, tailoring them to fit your event’s visual identity.
In this first part, we’ll walk through some of the most essential table solutions, explaining what they are and how they’re best used.
1. DJ Booths
LED, Starcloth, black, white, silver, gold, red, blue, or branded, the DJ booth is where you make a statement that matches your occasion, brand, theme, or message.
We have literally provided hundreds of booths over the years for all sorts of activations, from weddings to TV shows. We first introduced DJ booths for a clean, aesthetically pleasing finish, covering up the chaos that can end up on a DJ’s table; from equipment, cables, and phones to food, drinks, and leftover cake! It also acts as a secure barrier against the crowd. The booth itself is a surround; the actual table part is a solid, stable piece of stage deck included within the frame. It is designed to be sturdy and comfortable for a DJ standing for multiple hours, complete with shelving options for storage and safety.
For us, a DJ booth is only complete with a front and two sides (which we call ‘returns’) to create a proper surround around the stage deck table, which we tend to place at 80cm–100cm high. We also provide a DJ monitor so they can hear themselves clearly without depending solely on headphones or the front-of-house PA, and we can set the entire booth on stage platforms of almost any height.

2. Lecterns
A lectern, which is also sometimes referred to as a podium, rostrum, or pulpit, is heavily associated with conferences, faith-based events, or public addresses. It is where key messages are delivered from, where attention is held, and a speaker’s presence is established.
Similar to DJ booths, a lectern provides a visually clean and aesthetically pleasing finish. They are often branded to showcase a logo or get a message across. However, they are also highly practical, giving a host or guest speaker a comfortable place to rest their notes, devices, or hands. It can even help settle nerves for those less comfortable on stage. While it looks sleek from the front, the inside of a lectern with storage can hold everything from notes and cue cards to a glass of water, microphone cables, and various types of mics.
Moving away from bulky, traditional styles, our lecterns are clean, modern, and slick. Some of the styles we offer are; acrylic (perspex), truss, chrome, or custom builds.

3. Poseur Tables
Poseur tables, commonly referred to as cocktail tables or bar tables. They come in as many different styles and designs as you can imagine.
The most common and cost-effective options are standard silver or chrome poseur tables.
To jazz them up a bit, you can add a spandex tablecloth and pop a wireless uplighter underneath.

For more fun, fancy, or refined events, we also offer LED poseur tables and wooden-top variations.

They are great for filling open spaces, creating meeting points, adding symmetry, and serving as visual anchor points that guide people on where to gather.
When seating is required, regular chairs are too low, so we match the tables with bar stools that sit taller and come in similar styles. Interestingly, DJs also frequently use these bar stools behind a DJ booth; the extra height allows them to easily see over the booth, keep an eye on the audience, and stay fully engaged with the room whether they are in the middle of a mix or transitioning tracks.

4. Display Plinths
If you want a product noticed, elevate it. Our matte white cubes, mirrored, and custom display plinths instantly draw attention to a product and create a cleaner, more premium presentation.
These ae best used for product launches, exhibitions, retail activations, floral installations, fashion showcases, branded displays.

5. Custom Bars & Branded Counters
Whilst many people think of bars simply as a place to serve drinks, they often become one of the busiest and most photographed areas of an event. Guests naturally gather around them, making them valuable focal points for both engagement and branding.
Like many items in our inventory, bars can be tailored to suit your occasion. We offer a range of finishes including colored, mirrored, LED, rustic wooden styles, and fully branded options featuring logos, campaign artwork, or custom messaging.
Branded counters work in much the same way. Whether used for registration, guest check-in, information points, product sampling, merchandise sales, or exhibition stands, they provide a clean, professional finish whilst helping guests immediately identify where they need to be.
More than just practical furniture, bars and counters help create structure within a space and reinforce the overall look and feel of an event when designed correctly.
